HyunJin Yang
Pastor
HyunJin Yang (M.Div and B.A. in Psychology both from Bryn Athyn College, PA, the United States) was born and raised in South Korea. Being ordained in 2022, he first served in Seoul, South Korea for two years and moved to Sydney in 2024 with his wife, YoungHee. Originally being raised in a Presbyterian Christian family, he found the New Church and its teachings drawing on him quickly in his early 20s.
HyunJin has found a deep connection with the rich spiritual messages in the Word (Scripture), especially when seen in the light of its deeper, spiritual meanings—what is referred to in the church as “the internal meaning of the Word.”
He is excited to invite others to explore it, and to preach and share about how the New Church understanding can lift up our understanding about God, life after death, and our spiritual life in general.
Lastly, HyunJin wants to share a message that’s recently struck him in thinking of the church and Christianity in general:
What we often hear at church is, “Just believe.” And yet, we come to see that the life of faith—a faith that is truly lived—is much more than that. We begin to recognise that our relationship with God, is a journey, rather a life-long one: learning to see how our struggles arise when we turn away from the Lord, and how returning to the Lord Jesus Christ is the path to eternal happiness and salvation.
